Gjensidige

Over 300 screens went through the loop

When it was time to renovate the headquarters of the Norwegian insurance company Gjensidige, the goal was to reuse as much as possible. Since the renovation would eventually involve multiple offices, a central decision was made to ensure that all renovations were carried out with sustainability in mind. The objective was to avoid discarding anything. Siw Brekken from Gjensidige, who was responsible for the renovation, immediately thought of Götessons when the idea of reusing screens came up.

“Given the long-standing relationship between Gjensidige and Götessons, and thanks to the LOOP by Götessons concept, an exciting reuse project became possible,” says Siw.

Early on, the decision was made to reduce the width of the desks from 1600 mm to 1400 mm, which meant that the screens also needed to be resized. Because there was already a reuse strategy in place, Gjensidige chose to send back their existing screens—delivered by Götessons over the past 10 years—for refurbishment. One-third of the screens even retained their original fabric, as it was still in good condition and matched the desired color for the new setup. In these cases, the fabric covers were resized accordingly. The remaining screen frames were reupholstered with new fabric covers in the same textile and color as the existing ones. Siw hopes this project will inspire other companies to follow suit.

“The entire process was incredibly smooth, from the decision to loop the screens to receiving them back, fully refurbished like new,” says Siw.

Beyond the LOOP project for the screens, Götessons and Gjensidige have collaborated on additional sustainability initiatives throughout the autumn.

“Götessons has also taken care of other products we no longer need, reselling them through their LOOP-shop,” Siw explains. “This is a highly appreciated initiative that extends the lifespan of products instead of sending them for recycling,” she concludes.

The renovation journey for Gjensidige continues in 2024, with even more screens set to go through the LOOP.
